Get the Kids Involved Make the Fourth of July THEIR Holiday Too!

Fireworks, recipes and MORE!

By Joyce Campbell, Macaroni KID Publisher June 28, 2026

Here is a fun idea for this Fourth of July: let the kids help!
I know when children are part of the preparation, the magic multiplies. The excitement builds from the moment the planning starts, and suddenly, this is not just the grown-ups' holiday; it belongs to the whole family.
Give them a job! Let them pack the snack bag, pick the fireworks outfit, decorate the blanket, or make the red, white, and blue fruit skewers. Small responsibilities create big pride and big smiles.  It also opens the door to wonderful conversations about why we celebrate, what our community means to us, and why we come together every year to watch the sky light up together.
And here is the truth: kids do not remember the perfect party. They remember being part of it. The year they got to help!  The night they stayed up past bedtime watching fireworks with the whole family gathered under the stars. Those are the moments they carry with them forever.  So this year, spread out the plans and ask your little ones, "What do YOU want to do for the Fourth?" You just might be surprised at the magic they come up with!
Wishing every family a safe, joyful, and unforgettable Fourth of July!
